The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine officially announced on May 5 a new charge of treason against one of the current members of the Verkhovna Rada. Although the statement did not name the individual, the context of the case suggests it concerns Alexander Dubinsky.

Essence of the charge and circumstances of the case
According to the prosecution’s information, the deputy is suspected of “treason committed by a group of individuals in collusion under martial law.” He is accused of intentional actions aimed at harming Ukraine’s information security, as well as providing assistance to the “aggressor state in conducting subversive activities.”
During the investigation, prosecutors, together with representatives of other law enforcement agencies, examined over 50 video addresses and publications by the politician, posted on his personal Telegram channel, social media pages, and various information platforms.
“DBR employees, in cooperation with the SBU, reported a new charge of treason against the current member of parliament, who continued active anti-Ukrainian propaganda even while in pre-trial detention.”
Background and international context
Alexander Dubinsky is currently being held in a pre-trial detention center on several criminal charges. Back in November 2023, he was informed of the charge of treason, and the case has already been transferred to court. At that time, a charge was also announced against Andriy Derkach — now a member of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, who is suspected of collaborating with the Russian military intelligence.
In 2020 and 2021, the U.S. government imposed sanctions against Derkach and Dubinsky. Derkach was accused of interfering in the U.S. presidential elections and was stated to have been an agent of Russian intelligence services for over a decade. The Ukrainian authorities reported that Dubinsky acted within Derkach’s network and participated in Russian disinformation campaigns aimed at American citizens. In January, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stripped Derkach of his citizenship, and his parliamentary mandate was annulled.
Alexander Dubinsky himself commented on the situation in his Telegram channel and reported on the investigative actions against him and his defenders, calling the criminal proceedings a “fabricated” case.
