A Bill Supporting Ukraine in Its Fight Against Russia Introduced in the U.S.

Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives have introduced a bill aimed at supporting Ukraine in its war against Russia. This move is part of efforts to pressure the Trump administration to strengthen the Ukrainian government.

Representative Greg Meeks, who is the leading Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, briefed colleagues on the document, which provides funding for Ukraine’s security and recovery, as well as imposing strict sanctions on Russia. This information has been confirmed by sources familiar with the progress of the bill.

Sanctions Against Russia and Support for Ukraine

The bill, which has not yet been made public, emerged two weeks after Republicans and Democrats in the Senate proposed tough sanctions against Russia in the event it refuses to engage in peace talks with Ukraine.

It is expected that some provisions of the bill may be included in the final broad package, even if it does not gain support in the House of Representatives, where Republicans hold the majority.

New Sanctions Against the Aggressor Country

In early April, 50 U.S. senators, both Republicans and Democrats, introduced a bill proposing a new package of sanctions against Russia and countries that purchase its oil. This will be implemented if Russian President Vladimir Putin refuses to engage in good faith negotiations for a ceasefire in Ukraine or violates potential peace agreements.

“This bill is an important step in supporting Ukraine and strengthening international security,” Meeks noted.
