EU condemns Russia’s threats regarding attacks on European defense companies

У ЄС відреагували на погрози Росії цілити по європейських оборонних підприємствах

The European Union has strongly reacted to the statements made by the Russian Ministry of Defense, which published a list of companies allegedly involved in the production of strike drones for Ukraine. The list, published on April 15, included enterprises from various European countries, including branches of 11 Ukrainian companies located in the United Kingdom, Denmark, Latvia, Germany, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Poland, and the Czech Republic. In addition, Moscow added another 10 companies engaged in the production of components in the Czech Republic, Israel, Turkey, Italy, Spain, and Germany.

European Commission’s position on Russian threats

European Commission spokesperson Anita Hipper emphasized during a briefing in Brussels that the EU does not plan to comment in detail on Russian statements to avoid giving them undue weight. She stressed that the main focus of the European Union is on supporting Ukraine and strengthening its own defense capabilities.

“We will not give these comments additional weight with detailed responses, but will focus on what we are doing: we are supporting Ukraine, strengthening our own defense, and in fact, Putin and Russia should be doing the opposite – primarily sincerely starting a peace process and also paying attention to their own weakened economy instead of waging war.”

Hipper stated that Russia continues to act as an aggressor state, and its actions are accompanied by repression, intimidation, killings, and destruction not only in Ukraine but also on a global scale. She also noted that the budget deficit of the Russian Federation in the first quarter of 2026 nearly doubled compared to the same period last year and already exceeds the planned deficit for the current year.

EU insists on cessation of Russian aggression

Amid rising budget deficits and deepening economic problems in Russia, the European Union calls on the Kremlin to cease military aggression and abandon the practice of terror. EU representatives are convinced that the only path to stability is a sincere peace process and focusing Russia’s attention on domestic economic issues rather than threats and escalating tensions in the world.
