European Countries Consider Sending Up to 15,000 Troops to Guarantee Ukraine’s Security

країни Європи готові відправити в Україну до 15 тисяч військових у рамках гарантій безпеки

European nations are preparing to send up to 15,000 military personnel to Ukraine to ensure security guarantees in the first six months following a potential ceasefire. According to diplomatic sources, the corresponding plan has already been developed with the involvement of military experts from the United Kingdom and France in collaboration with Brussels structures.

Format of Security Guarantees for Ukraine

According to the released details, monitoring compliance with the ceasefire on land may be carried out by military contingents from the United Kingdom and France. Moreover, their troops do not require a mandate from the UN or the European Union to participate in the mission — an official invitation from the Ukrainian authorities is sufficient. Neighboring countries, including Turkey, may be responsible for ensuring control from the air and sea.

Preparation for Signing Documents and International Support

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that some documents aimed at resolving the war have already been prepared as part of the negotiation process and may be signed in January. A meeting of the Coalition of Willing at the advisors’ level is scheduled for January 3 in Ukraine, and on January 6, leaders of the countries will gather in France to discuss the final steps.

“Plans regarding how security guarantees for Ukraine might look are already prepared.”

French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized that during the meeting in Paris, specific contributions from each state to the security guarantee system for Ukraine will be agreed upon. In turn, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that the US authorities have agreed to send their own troops to monitor the Russian-Ukrainian border or the line of contact after a peace agreement is reached. He also expressed optimism regarding a ceasefire, noting that peace could be achieved in the coming weeks.
