Proposals for Extension

As stated in the texts of the documents, it is planned to extend martial law and mobilization from November 5 for another 90 days. This is necessary to ensure the country’s defense capabilities and to adequately respond to threats from the Russian Federation.

Mechanism for Coming into Effect

According to the legislation, presidential decrees regarding martial law and mobilization come into effect after the relevant law is approved by the Verkhovna Rada. This ensures the legitimacy and legal force of decisions to extend the special legal regime.

Martial law has been in effect in Ukraine since February 24, 2022, the day of Russia’s full-scale invasion. At that time, general mobilization was also announced. Since then, the Verkhovna Rada has been extending the terms of martial law and mobilization every three months.

We remind you that martial law has been in effect in the country since February 2022, when the Russian Federation began its full-scale invasion. Since then, the extensions of mobilization and martial law have been carried out regularly, in accordance with the current security situation.
