European Parliament Calls for Support for Ukraine

Recently, on October 9, the European Parliament called for the lifting of restrictions on Ukraine’s use of Western weapons to target military objectives on Russian territory. In its resolution, the lawmakers emphasized that Russian military facilities are being used to attack the Ukrainian population and critical civilian infrastructure.

In a resolution, the European Parliament stressed that Russia’s recent aggressive actions should not affect the unwavering support for Ukraine from the EU and its member states. It noted that assistance in strengthening Ukraine’s air defense is crucial for reducing the risks of drone incursions into the territory of the European Union. MEPs called on all member states to immediately provide Ukraine with additional military support, including ammunition for air defense systems, and to participate in joint procurement of military equipment.

Use of Frozen Russian Assets

The aforementioned resolution also includes a call for EU states to approve the initiative proposed by the European Commission regarding the use of frozen Russian assets as a basis for providing Ukraine with a reparations loan. This step is intended to be an important component of financial support for Ukraine in its resistance to Russian aggression.
