Kremlin special envoy Kirill Dmitriev has arrived in the United States to conduct negotiations with representatives of President Donald Trump’s administration. Dmitriev’s visit comes amid active discussions regarding a potential peace agreement on Ukraine and issues of economic interaction between Russia and the U.S.

According to reports, during the meetings, the parties plan to discuss the prospects for resolving Russia’s war against Ukraine, as well as opportunities for developing economic cooperation between the two countries. Special attention is being paid to the situation surrounding the sanctions regime imposed against Russian oil exports.
Context of Sanctions Against Russian Oil
Dmitriev’s visit to the U.S. coincided with a period of temporary easing of sanctions on Russian oil. The U.S. authorities have granted permission for the purchase of oil already loaded onto tankers until April 11. Previously, in March, following Dmitriev’s visit, it was announced that restrictions would be lifted on approximately 100 million barrels of oil.
