The Kyiv City Council has decided to conduct a large-scale renaming of streets in the capital. At a meeting on December 4, the deputies supported the decision to rename part of Lavrska Street — from Slava Square to Volunteer Battalions Street — to Ivan Mazepa Street.

Restoration of Historical Names and Address Organization
Deputy Olesya Pinzenyk reminded that in 2010 the name of this part of the street was changed due to the demand of the Moscow Patriarchate, which then owned the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. Now, the Kyiv City Council is restoring historical justice and renewing the Ukrainian identity of the urban space.
“Today we are returning to Kyiv residents the right to their own memory. I am grateful to all the people who fought for this decision, and I urge everyone to actively participate in shaping the cultural environment of our city,” said Olesya Pinzenyk.
The numbering of buildings on Ivan Mazepa Street will be organized according to the system that was in place before July 8, 2010. At the same time, the part of Lavrska Street from Volunteer Battalions Street to Navodnytska Square will regain its historical name — Novonavodnytska. The numbering there will remain unchanged.
