A group of 22 Members of Parliament from the Verkhovna Rada, led by Serhiy Rudy, has appealed to the heads of relevant ministries to re-submit the candidacy of Taras Kremin for the position of Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language. The parliamentarians addressed their appeal to the Minister of Justice, the Minister of Culture and Information Policy, as well as the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights.

Arguments for Extending Powers
In his statement, Serhiy Rudy emphasized the importance of maintaining the effectiveness of the language ombudsman institution, especially in light of Russia’s attempts to influence Ukraine’s humanitarian policy, particularly regarding language issues. The deputy highlighted that Taras Kremin’s term expires only on July 8, and the results of his work and the necessity of preserving the institution, according to Rudy, are evident to all.
“There is still time; Taras’s powers end only on July 8. I won’t elaborate on the results of his work and the necessity of preserving the institution – it is obvious to everyone. I want to emphasize that it is crucial not to allow the weakening of the ombudsman institution against the backdrop of Russia’s demands for concessions in the humanitarian block of issues, including language,” wrote Serhiy Rudy on Facebook.
Public Support and Previous Experience
More than 30 Ukrainian cultural figures and public activists have already supported a similar initiative, which also called for the preservation of the effectiveness of the language ombudsman institution. It is worth noting that Taras Kremin was appointed to this position by the Cabinet of Ministers in 2020. Since then, he has been addressing issues related to the protection of the state language and ensuring the enforcement of relevant legislation in Ukraine.
