Financial Support for Defense Production

A significant portion of the investments will be directed towards the development of Ukrainian drone production, allowing for the swift launch of the relevant project. According to Rob Jetten, this funding will help Ukraine bolster its ability to counter Russian aggression.

“We have just signed a partnership agreement, and this will be beneficial for Ukraine, for the Dutch, and for Europe. We will invest 482 million euros in defense. Thanks to this funding, the Ukrainian drone production project will be able to start very quickly. Ukraine needs this to continue resisting Russian aggression,” said Jetten on April 16 at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who visited the Netherlands.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the proposed format of a “special security partnership agreement,” as well as a separate bilateral initiative called the “Drone deal.” He stated that the cooperation would encompass not only drone production but also the development of comprehensive airspace defense capabilities, countering missile and drone attacks, as well as improving electronic warfare systems and joint weapon production.

Zelensky’s Visit to the Netherlands and International Support

During his visit to the Netherlands, Volodymyr Zelensky received the prestigious Four Freedoms Awards for the courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people in their fight for freedom. The award was presented by Prime Minister Rob Jetten and Elizabeth Roosevelt with the participation of King Willem-Alexander and Princess Beatrix in the city of Middelburg.

At the award ceremony, Zelensky emphasized the need to hold Russia accountable for its aggression against Ukraine. The President noted that it is important for Russian war criminals to be justly punished, as was the case after World War II, and reported on the ongoing work to establish a special tribunal for Russia’s crimes.

It is worth noting that Ukraine has signed similar security cooperation agreements with Italy, Germany, and Norway during recent visits to these countries.
