The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has appointed Olena Ivanovska as the Language Ombudsman. This was announced on July 15 by the government representative in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk.

Olena Ivanovska is a renowned Ukrainian philologist who serves as the head of the Department of Folklore Studies at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Her professional activities are closely related to the research and promotion of the Ukrainian language and culture.
Changes in the Language Ombudsman Position
In early July 2025, the government made the decision to dismiss Taras Kremen from the position of Language Ombudsman due to the expiration of his term. Kremen has held this position since 2020, and his work received support from both members of the Verkhovna Rada and representatives of the cultural community. Ahead of the new personnel changes, 22 members of parliament appealed to the relevant institutions requesting a reconsideration of Kremen’s candidacy, a similar initiative was supported by over 30 Ukrainian cultural and public figures.
