“In light of the escalation of Russia’s terror against Ukraine and provocations against Poland, we stand firmly together. Today we will hold substantive discussions about our mutual security, Ukraine’s accession to the EU and NATO, as well as pressure on Moscow,” said Sybiha.
Strengthening Cooperation Between Ukraine and Poland Amid Escalation
During his visit to the capital, Poland’s Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski addressed the public from outside the Polish embassy in Kyiv. He recorded a statement together with the ambassador in Kyiv, Piotr Lukasiewicz, who reminded that the consular section of the Polish embassy was damaged during one of the Russian attacks on Kyiv this summer.
Sikorski emphasized that the situation at the front and around Ukraine has escalated in recent days, particularly due to the massive launch of drones by the Russian Federation. According to him, in just one day, Russia launched over 400 drones and 40 missiles at Ukraine, and 19 drones violated Polish airspace.
Poland and NATO’s Response to Russian Provocations
During the nighttime attack on September 10, NATO forces, including Polish F-16 fighters, Dutch F-35s, Italian AWACS reconnaissance planes, and refueling aircraft jointly operated by the Alliance, participated in the destruction of Russian drones over Polish territory. Polish authorities emphasized their confidence in the intentionality of the actions of the Russian Federation and consider this a deliberate provocation.
At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense assured that the strikes on the night of September 10 were aimed only at military-industrial facilities in Ukraine, and that “no targets were planned on Polish territory.” However, the Polish government categorically rejects this version, emphasizing that the incursion of drones was not a coincidence.
