Final Stage of Financial Aid Approval

According to a spokesperson for the Cypriot presidency of the EU Council, the issue of amending the EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) has already been added to the agenda of the meeting of ambassadors from EU member states (Coreper II) scheduled for Wednesday. This amendment is the final element needed to launch the new financial support mechanism for Ukraine.

It is specified that this item has been presented as a so-called I-item, meaning it does not require further discussion. This indicates a preliminary agreement has been reached among the member states.

“If approved at the ambassadorial level, the decision will be made through a written procedure without further debate.”

Following such approval, the European Union may soon finalize one of the largest financial aid packages for Ukraine.

Hungary’s Position and the Impact of Elections

In the recent parliamentary elections in Hungary, the “Tisza” party emerged victorious. Its leader, Peter Madyar, has already announced intentions to lift the veto imposed by the current Prime Minister Viktor Orban on the allocation of the €90 billion loan to Kyiv. At the same time, Madyar emphasized that Hungary will not bear financial responsibility for this loan and opposes the expedited accession of Ukraine to the EU. He links the normalization of bilateral relations with Kyiv to the need to ensure the rights of the Hungarian minority in Ukraine.
