Agent Spied After Air Alerts

Law enforcement officials established that the detainee is a 41-year-old warehouse worker from a local enterprise. He was recruited by representatives of the Russian special services through the banned social network “VKontakte” in Ukraine. Following the instructions of his handlers, the man would go to designated locations immediately after air alerts were announced to document the positions of mobile fire groups and air defense systems that defended the sky over Kyiv and the region.

The collected information was to be promptly transmitted to his handlers so they could adjust strikes on Ukrainian military facilities and the city’s infrastructure. According to the occupiers’ plan, destroying air defense systems and mobile groups would allow for mass attacks on civilian targets in the capital without hindrance.

Detention at the Spy Location

SBU employees uncovered the agent at the initial stage of his activities. He was detained while gathering intelligence near one of the deployment points of Ukrainian defenders. During a search, law enforcement seized a mobile phone containing evidence of cooperation with the FSB.

“The special service detained a coordinator of the mass aerial attacks by Russian forces on the capital of Ukraine. As the investigation established, the perpetrator acted on behalf of the FSB, and his main task was to find and transmit to the enemy the coordinates of air defense and mobile fire groups defending Kyiv.”

The agent is currently in custody. Investigative actions are ongoing to establish all circumstances and individuals involved in the recruitment and transmission of information to the enemy.
