Scheduled Meetings on the Security Contingent in Ukraine

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced meetings this week dedicated to issues concerning the security contingent. In his evening video address, he stated:

This is reported by Київ24

“Today I held a meeting: we continue the development of our army – the formation of a corps system. There were relevant reports. We are also preparing with partners the foundation for a security contingent – a contingent involving partners that will support peace after this war. Meetings regarding this – about the contingent – are scheduled for this week”

.

Zelensky also emphasized the importance of foreign policy activities planned for the coming weeks.

“We are working for the sake of air defense for Ukraine, for the resilience of our state and Defense Forces, and for diplomacy to finally start yielding results”

, he added.

Discussion of Military Contingents in Europe

European countries are actively discussing the creation of a military contingent that will ensure security in Ukraine after the war ends. Estonia’s Minister of Defense, Hanno Pevkur, stated in an interview with Radio Free Europe that more than six countries are ready to deploy their troops in Ukraine, and their number is likely to increase after the mandate for a potential mission is agreed upon.

Strategic Placement of Contingents

It is worth noting that at the end of March, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the western contingents proposed by the “coalition of the willing” led by France and the United Kingdom are not planned to be stationed on the front line. Instead, they will operate in strategic points of the peace zone, serving as security support forces.
