Serhiy Deyneko, who previously headed the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, has received a new appointment as advisor to the Minister of Internal Affairs. Following a brief rehabilitation, according to the decision of the Ministry of Internal Affairs leadership, he will lead a combat unit of the State Border Guard Service.

Details of Deyneko’s New Appointment
Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko emphasized that Serhiy Deyneko requires a short recovery period after many years of service in leadership positions. The minister noted the managerial and combat experience of the general, gained over more than six years in the role of head of the State Border Guard Service. During his duties as an advisor, Deyneko will provide expert support, share advice based on his own combat experience, and participate in developing solutions in the area of state border security.
“Considering the doctors’ recommendations, he requires a short recovery after many years of service. I value both the managerial experience of General Deyneko, acquired over more than six years as head of the State Border Guard Service, and his combat achievements. As an advisor, I expect him to provide expert support, advice based on combat experience, and participate in developing solutions in the area of state border security. Additionally, Serhiy Deyneko has decided to continue his military service while remaining an advisor. Therefore, after a brief rehabilitation, he will be appointed commander of a combat unit of the State Border Guard Service,” Klymenko wrote in a telegram.
Changes in the Leadership of the State Border Guard Service
On January 2, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced personnel changes in the State Border Guard Service. He noted that the Minister of Internal Affairs will soon present candidates for the position of the new head of the State Border Guard Service. It is emphasized that Serhiy Deyneko will continue to remain within the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Currently, Ihor Klymenko has not disclosed the name of the future head of the State Border Guard Service.
Serhiy Deyneko has been leading the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine since June 2019. His service in the structure has been ongoing since 1996.
