Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has announced a planned meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky immediately after his official visit to China. This was stated in Fico’s concluding remarks following his stay in Beijing on September 4.

Uzhhorod to Host Ukrainian-Slovak Talks

According to Slovak media, the meeting between Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko will take place in Uzhhorod on September 5. The agenda for the talks will focus on the development of energy infrastructure between the two countries.

“(After the visit to China – ed.) we will immediately head to eastern Slovakia to have the opportunity to conduct talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko tomorrow,” he stated.

After the negotiations, Fico and Zelensky plan to hold a joint press conference to inform the public about the results of the meeting. The Slovak government press service confirmed that the main focus will be on energy issues and cooperation in this sector.

Context of the Visit and Future Meetings

At this point, the Ukrainian side has not officially announced the conduct of negotiations in this format. Robert Fico also did not rule out the possibility of an informal meeting with European Council President Antonio Costa during the visit.

It is known that during his stay in Beijing on September 3, Fico attended a military parade and held a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. After returning from the East, the politician will focus on negotiations with his Ukrainian counterparts.
