Damage from the Storm and Condition of the Animals
The powerful storm that hit Kyiv the day before led to the falling of trees and large branches within the Kyiv Zoo. As a result of the severe weather, the fence in the alpaca aviary was damaged, the roof of the raccoon aviary was affected, and three panes of glass in the “Bear Continent” complex were broken. Thanks to the prompt actions of the zoo staff, all the animals were timely moved to winter quarters, which helped avoid injuries.
“Trees and large branches were broken, the fence in the alpaca aviary was damaged, the roof of the raccoon aviary was affected, and three panes of glass in the ‘Bear Continent’ were broken. The most important thing is that all the animals are safe and sound. At the beginning of the storm, they were quickly moved to winter quarters,” the statement said.

Restoration of the Territory and Use of Debris
Currently, work is underway in the zoo to clear fallen trees and branches. Due to the aftermath of the storm, the institution opened to visitors with a delay — only from 12:00. The broken branches are not being disposed of but are instead being used to enrich the animals’ habitat.
As of 10:00, the repair of the alpaca fence has been completed, the restoration of the roof in the raccoon aviary is ongoing, and repairs to the glass and fence in the “Bear Continent” are also in progress. The work is being carried out as quickly as possible to ensure comfort and safety for both the animals and the visitors.
