The Baltic States Deny Russia’s Accusations of Assisting Drone Attacks

Три країни Балтії відкидають звинувачення Росії в сприянні атакам дронів

Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania have officially rejected the accusations from the Russian Federation of facilitating air attacks on its territory. In a joint statement released on April 10 by the foreign ministers of the three countries, they emphasized the baselessness of the Russian claims and highlighted the disinformation nature of the campaign against the Baltic States.

Baltic Diplomats Reject Russian Disinformation

The statement from the foreign ministers emphasized that the Baltic States have never allowed the use of their airspace or territory for drone attacks on targets in Russia. The diplomats reminded that these accusations were officially denied in March during contacts with the acting envoys of Russian diplomatic missions in Tallinn, Vilnius, and Riga. Meanwhile, Russia continues to spread false information, ignoring the official denials from the Baltic States.

“The Baltic States have never allowed their territories and airspace to be used for drone attacks on targets in Russia.”

The ministers also expressed their solidarity with Ukraine, which continues to defend itself against Russia’s full-scale aggression. They emphasized that Ukraine is acting in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter and called on Moscow to cease hostilities and withdraw its troops from all internationally recognized territory of Ukraine. The Baltic States assured that they remain fully supportive of Kyiv.

Response to Threats and Drone Incidents

On April 6, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova threatened the Baltic States with “consequences” if they provided their airspace for Ukrainian strikes on Russian ports in the Baltic Sea. These threats came amid reports of incidents where Ukrainian drones, used for strikes on targets in Russia, entered the airspace of the Baltic States and Finland.

The European Commission, responding to the Russian statements, emphasized that an attack on any EU member state would be regarded as aggression against the entire European Union. At the same time, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stated that Kyiv has never launched drones towards Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, or Finland and is in constant contact with these countries regarding recent incidents.

Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga emphasized that all recorded cases involve “absolutely deliberate and targeted actions by Russia.” According to Sybiga, intelligence has information about the intentional diversion of drones by the Russian side towards the Baltic States for the purpose of using these incidents in propaganda information campaigns.
