In the capital, volunteers from the local Animal Rescue Team conducted a complex operation to free three cats from a home filled with trash literally to the ceiling. The animals were left unattended after the death of their 75-year-old owner, who had rarely left the apartment for a long time. According to neighbors, food was passed to the pensioner on a rope through the window, as she did not go outside. The tragedy occurred when a fire broke out in the apartment — the woman died from an accidental ignition.

Rescue Operation Under Difficult Conditions

“In this ‘home,’ a 75-year-old grandmother miraculously survived. According to neighbors, she practically never left the apartment, and food was lowered to her on a rope. One day, a tragedy occurred — she died as a result of an accidental fire,” said the Kyiv Animal Rescue Group.

After the fire was extinguished, residents heard faint meowing from the apartment, which prompted the call for animal rescuers. The operation to rescue the animals was extremely challenging due to the debris and limited space. Additional difficulties arose when unknown individuals broke the door and attempted to take an automatic cat trap, which was only prevented thanks to video surveillance in the entrance.

Cats Are Safe but Need Treatment

Ultimately, all three cats were successfully retrieved and taken to an animal shelter. They are currently being cared for at Cats on Mars, where the animals are receiving treatment and being prepared for adoption. Unfortunately, the cats were found to have a number of viral diseases, but volunteers hope that soon the animals will be able to find a new home and no longer be in danger.
