U.S. President Donald Trump has approved military aid to Ukraine for the first time since taking office, utilizing extraordinary presidential powers. Preliminary reports indicate that the new package may amount to around 300 million dollars.
Details of the Aid Package
The package is expected to be allocated under the Presidential Drawdown Authority program, which allows the President of the United States to make swift decisions regarding the supply of weapons, bypassing the need for Congressional approval. Previously, Ukraine received weapons that were approved during Joe Biden’s administration.
According to sources, the new package may include missiles for the Patriot air defense systems, as well as medium-range missiles. The final composition of the aid is still being negotiated.
Trump and Support for Ukraine
President Trump has previously confirmed that the White House is considering providing Ukraine with Patriot air defense systems. Axios reported that he promised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to deliver 10 missiles for the Patriot system to Kyiv as soon as possible.
After taking office, Trump stated that the U.S. had spent hundreds of billions of dollars on Ukraine’s defense and that it was necessary to stop the war.
Recently, Trump has increasingly expressed dissatisfaction with Russia’s actions. After a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he noted that he was not pleased with the behavior of the Russian leadership.
