US President Donald Trump emphasized during the World Economic Forum in Davos that the parties involved in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia are on the verge of reaching agreements to end the war. According to him, there is significant animosity between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin, which complicates negotiations; however, the chance for a peace agreement remains.

Negotiation Process and Positions of the Parties
Trump highlighted that both Ukraine and Russia are interested in reaching agreements and expressed hope for a successful conclusion to the negotiations. He also noted that the ongoing military actions have catastrophic consequences for both nations. The US leader particularly pointed out the use of drones, which, according to him, lead to thousands of casualties every week.
“What is happening is terrible. This is a drone war. Drones are killing thousands of people every week, thousands. We have to stop this. I believe they have now reached a point where they can come together and make a deal… And if they don’t do it – they are foolish. This applies to both sides. I know they are not foolish, but if they do not make this deal, it will be foolishness,” added the US President.
The US President also announced a possible meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky in the near future.
Plans of the Ukrainian Delegation and Events in Davos
As reported by Ukrainian President’s advisor Dmytro Lytvyn, Volodymyr Zelensky is currently in Kyiv and has not announced plans to attend the forum in Davos. On January 20, during his address, Zelensky spoke about the difficult energy situation in the country and noted that the possibility of his trip to Switzerland depends on the readiness of key documents, particularly regarding cooperation with the US and other international partners in the field of air defense.
He emphasized that urgent domestic issues remain a priority, although if new decisions regarding energy or air defense arise, he is ready to participate in the forum. Meanwhile, the President’s Office reported that on January 21, Zelensky held an “energy selector” in Kyiv, and due to restrictions on civilian aviation flights, he could not promptly arrive in Davos.
The Ukrainian delegation in Davos is headed by the head of the President’s Office, Kyrylo Budanov. According to media reports, Zelensky may join meetings in Davos later this week to negotiate with Donald Trump.
On January 17, the Ukrainian delegation held talks with US representatives in Miami. The meeting included Kyrylo Budanov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov, and the head of the “Servant of the People” faction, Davyd Arakhamia. The main topic of discussion was the details of a possible peace settlement with Russia.
Rustem Umerov reported that negotiations will continue in Davos as part of the World Economic Forum. Kyrylo Budanov noted on January 20 that the process is complex, but Ukraine is making every effort to achieve peace.
