Turkey’s position on peaceful resolution
Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly debates in New York, Erdoğan emphasized that Turkey has already assisted in the exchange of prisoners and the repatriation of the deceased, and has actively worked on organizing peace negotiations between the conflicting parties. The Turkish leader highlighted the importance of supporting dialogue to achieve lasting peace.
“Through direct negotiations, we facilitated the exchange of several prisoners and the bodies of the deceased, and we also worked on defining the modalities for peace talks between the parties,” he said during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly debates in New York.
Lack of quick results
Erdoğan also noted that, in his belief, there can be no winners in war, and a just peace has no losers. He emphasized that Turkey will continue its efforts to cease hostilities in the near future.
Earlier, in a conversation with the American television channel Fox News, the Turkish president expressed the opinion that a quick end to the war between Russia and Ukraine should not be expected.
It is known that several rounds of negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations have already taken place in Istanbul with Turkey’s mediation, but they have not yet led to significant political shifts.
