According to Zelensky, advisors on national security from Europe and Ukraine, including those delegated by Umierov, are actively working on the final amendments to the document. The President emphasized that after the final review, the plan will be sent to the USA for further consultations.
“We have kept the NSA (national security advisors – ed.). The NSA will work on the final version of the plan brought by Umierov – the NSA of Europeans with Ukraine. I think the plan will be ready tomorrow. In the evening, around that time. We will take another look at it and send it to the USA,” Zelensky said in response to journalists’ questions.
The President highlighted that since the first version of the document to the current one, which was discussed today with European partners, there has been noticeable progress towards a possible end to the war.
International Consultations and Reactions
A multilateral meeting took place in London with the participation of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. During the negotiations, the parties coordinated diplomatic interactions with the American administration, discussed security guarantees, issues of Ukraine’s recovery, and further steps towards peace.
Last week in Moscow, American representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with Vladimir Putin to discuss a potential peace agreement regarding the Russian-Ukrainian war. Putin confirmed that the Russian side did not agree with some of the US proposals regarding mechanisms for ending the war.
Following these negotiations, the Ukrainian delegation in the USA, along with representatives of Donald Trump’s administration, continued consultations that lasted several days.
On December 8, US President Donald Trump noted that Volodymyr Zelensky had not yet been briefed on American peace initiatives. At the same time, he stated that “his people are thrilled,” and Russia generally supports the plan, although it seeks full control over Ukraine.
Later, Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that the participants in the negotiation process working on the peace initiative mediated by the USA still have significant disagreements with Russia regarding the future of the territories.
