Deepening Defense Partnership

During the negotiations, the parties addressed the current situation at the front, the need to strengthen the protection of Ukrainian airspace, and the prospects for developing bilateral cooperation in the defense sector. Special attention was given to the issue of establishing joint drone production, which will allow both countries to enhance their defense capabilities and technological independence.

“It is important that after this war, there is indeed more security, not less, and that the interests of each nation are respected. What security will look like after this war is a globally significant question. And right now, we in Europe especially need to coordinate effectively to protect both our interests and our way of life,” he wrote in a telegram.

European Coordination and Diplomatic Priorities

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni emphasized that Rome is interested in developing joint drone production with Ukraine, confirming the intentions of both sides to conclude a Drone Deal. Zelensky’s visit to Italy also includes a meeting with the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella.

Earlier, during official visits to Germany and Norway, President Zelensky reached agreements with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to strengthen defense cooperation and held talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and other high-ranking officials.

The President of Ukraine stressed that the key diplomatic priority now is to deepen cooperation with international partners to enhance the country’s air defense.
