Space Forces as a response to modern challenges

“It’s time to look to space, as the only way to achieve the necessary level of security now lies in technological advantages across all domains. Therefore, the decision to establish the Space Forces by December 31, 2025, as outlined in the government program, although delayed, is still relevant.”

According to Zaluzhnyi, the current development of high technologies, particularly in the field of aerospace research, is becoming a key factor in strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities. He emphasized that the nature of warfare is constantly changing, and new security threats require the immediate development of national space technologies and capabilities.

Government plans and key tasks of the Space Forces

The state plans to complete the formation of the Space Forces by the end of 2025 – this is stipulated in the government activity program submitted by the Cabinet of Ministers for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada. In addition to creating a new branch of the military, by the end of 2025, Ukraine also intends to achieve 60% operational readiness of the integrated air and missile defense, as well as the cyber and space components of the defense system.

The Ministry of Defense has identified three main priorities for the development of Ukraine’s space potential: satellite communication, necessary for effective management of unmanned aerial vehicles over long distances; reconnaissance using space technologies; and early warning systems for missile threats, which enhance the level of state protection.

By implementing these initiatives, Ukraine aims to adapt to the new realities of warfare and ensure technological advantages to guarantee its own security.
