Efforts of energy workers and the situation in the energy system
Yulia Svyrydenko held a coordination meeting with the heads of “Ukrenergo” and other responsible structures, where common steps were defined to support the stable operation of the energy system, particularly by increasing electricity imports. According to her, the energy system remains stable, and in the coming days, electricity supply should be uninterrupted.
“The energy system is operating stably. We are doing everything possible to ensure that electricity supply is maintained in the coming days – without schedules and outages. It is important that Ukrainian families have electricity during the Easter days,” Svyrydenko noted.
Impact of Russian shelling and the state of the energy sector
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, which has been ongoing since February 2022, Russia has systematically attacked Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. The shelling has been particularly intense since the fall of 2025, leading to a significant shortage of generating capacity and many power outages. However, with the arrival of spring and the increase in electricity production from solar plants, the situation has improved, and restrictions have gradually been lifted.
President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that the Russian Federation continues its attempts to break the Ukrainian energy system. The Security Service of Ukraine considers strikes on energy facilities as crimes against humanity, having recorded more than two and a half hundred attacks on the country’s energy and heating supply facilities in this heating season alone.
In February 2026, Russian Minister Sergey Lavrov attempted to justify Russia’s actions by accusing Ukraine of attacks on Russian energy facilities, although the facts indicate otherwise. On April 6, President Zelensky stated his readiness to stop strikes on Russian energy infrastructure on the condition that attacks from Russia on Ukrainian energy are halted. However, the Russian side did not support this initiative.
