According to Zelensky, one of the topics of the meeting was the PURL program, which is already functioning effectively, as well as potential projects within this initiative. The President of Ukraine expressed gratitude to Trump for the substantive cooperation and noted his deep understanding of the situation and awareness of all aspects of the ongoing war.
“We had a productive meeting with Donald Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, and I am grateful to President Trump for this opportunity… We discussed several promising ideas for bringing peace closer, and I hope they will yield quick results. In particular, we touched on the PURL program, which is already working well, as well as potential projects within this initiative,” he wrote in a telegram.
US Position on Ukraine’s Territorial Integrity
In addition to the meeting with Zelensky, Donald Trump spoke with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. They discussed the issue of Russia’s war against Ukraine, particularly ways to reduce the Russian Federation’s revenue from fossil fuel exports.
After the negotiations on social media, the US President stated that Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, has a chance to return its territories to the borders that existed before the full-scale war began. Trump expressed confidence that restoring the country’s territorial integrity is a completely achievable task. This position was articulated for the first time since Trump took office as President of the United States in early 2025.
