Zelensky Announced Negotiations with Representatives of Trump and European Leaders in Berlin

The goal of the negotiations is to achieve a political agreement that will allow for the end of the war initiated by Russia against Ukraine.

Meetings to Establish the Foundation for Peace

Zelensky emphasized that Ukrainian officials are simultaneously engaged in an active dialogue with representatives of the U.S. and the European Union regarding the country’s recovery after the cessation of hostilities. The President noted that meetings with delegates from Donald Trump, as well as with leaders of European countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Poland, Italy, and Germany, are aimed at developing the foundation for peace and solidifying political agreements to end the war.

“At the same time, discussions are ongoing between Ukrainian officials and America and Europe regarding the real recovery of Ukraine, real development of Ukraine after the war. The most important thing is that I will have meetings with representatives of President (Donald) Trump, and there will also be meetings with our European partners, with many leaders regarding the foundation for peace – a political agreement to end the war”

Zelensky is convinced that Ukraine currently has a “significant chance” to end the war. According to him, the authorities are doing everything possible to ensure a dignified peace for the state.

Details of the Negotiation Process

It is expected that in the coming days, Zelensky will visit Berlin, where he will negotiate with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Representatives from other European countries may also join the dialogue. Last week, a meeting took place in Moscow between a U.S. delegation consisting of Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner and Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which the terms of a potential peace agreement were discussed. However, according to Putin, the Russian side did not agree with some points of the American plan to end the war.

Following this meeting, the Ukrainian delegation in the U.S. continued consultations with representatives of Trump’s team. Meanwhile, in a recent interview with Politico, Donald Trump stated that Russia currently has a stronger position in the negotiations than Ukraine and advised Zelensky to agree to the American peace initiative, which involves significant concessions from Kyiv.

However, Ukrainian and European officials remain skeptical about the sincerity of Russia’s intentions to achieve genuine peace, even despite Trump’s belief in the seriousness of Putin’s position. Analysts from the American Institute for the Study of War have repeatedly emphasized that the Kremlin is not ready for honest negotiations and seeks Ukraine’s capitulation rather than a compromise settlement.
