During a United Nations Security Council meeting dedicated to the situation in Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky urged the global community to take active measures to stop Russian aggression. According to him, effective resistance can be achieved by strengthening the protection of Ukraine’s airspace through the joint efforts of international partners.

Strengthening Protection Against Missiles and Drones
Zelensky emphasized the need to create a unified system to counter Russian missiles and drones. He stressed that blocking Russia’s ability to attack from the air would force it to seek ways to achieve a ceasefire. The Ukrainian leader also noted that these issues had already been discussed with U.S. President Donald Trump and other world leaders.
“Here is one example of how the war can be stopped by force: if we can strengthen our airspace with a joint system to counter Russian missiles and drones, it will force Russia to cease its aerial attacks, as everything can be shot down. Then Putin will be compelled to sit here or at another respected venue and seek a ceasefire on the ground. If there is no war in the sky, Russia cannot continue to fight on the ground. I discussed this with President Trump and other leaders,” said Zelensky.
New Security Architecture and International Support
The President highlighted the failure of the Budapest Memorandum, which was supposed to guarantee Ukraine’s security after it gave up nuclear weapons. As a result, over 30 countries are currently cooperating with Ukraine to create an effective security guarantee system. Zelensky singled out the role of the United Kingdom, France, and the United States in this coalition, emphasizing the importance of reliable support from the United States. He stressed that such real guarantees must serve as a barrier against further aggression from Russia.
Moreover, Zelensky reported that Ukraine supports all proposals from U.S. President Donald Trump aimed at achieving a ceasefire and starting negotiations with Russia. However, according to the President, Russia always avoids real agreements and tries to complicate the negotiation process.
During the meeting with Donald Trump, several new ideas for establishing peace were discussed. Zelensky expressed hope that these initiatives would be successful and emphasized the importance of American support, noting that Moscow pays attention to the U.S. position.
It is known that on September 23, Donald Trump spoke with Zelensky for over an hour, after which he stated on social media that with the support of the European Union, Ukraine has the opportunity to restore its territories to the borders that existed before the war began.
Trump added that with sufficient financial assistance from Europe and NATO, the restoration of Ukraine’s borders is entirely realistic, and prolonging the war brings no advantage to Russia, as a true military force would need less than a week to achieve victory.
