Zelensky Calls Trump’s Statement on Returning All Territories a Positive Signal

Зеленський про заяву Трампа щодо повернення Україною всіх територій: це позитивний сигнал

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reacted to the recent statement by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who claimed that Ukraine, together with the European Union, is capable of reclaiming its territories to the borders that existed before the onset of Russian aggression. According to Zelensky, this came as a surprise to him, but he considers such a position a positive signal for Ukraine.

“This was a bit of a surprise for me, you are right – a very positive signal that Trump and America will be with us until the end of the war. We’ll see, but God willing, it will be so,” Zelensky said in an interview with Fox News.

Zelensky and Trump’s Meeting: Discussion of Future Steps

During the meeting that took place on September 23 and lasted over an hour, the leaders discussed issues of further support for Ukraine and the necessity of pressure on the Russian Federation. Zelensky noted that Donald Trump understands well that Russia will not achieve victory in this war, despite Vladimir Putin’s claims to the contrary. The Ukrainian President emphasized the importance of increasing sanctions pressure on Moscow, which, in his opinion, could influence the developments on the front.

Zelensky also highlighted that the positions of the Ukrainian and American teams have now come closer together, creating favorable conditions for expanding cooperation between the countries.

Trump’s Statement and Its Impact on U.S. Policy

After the meeting, Donald Trump wrote on social media that he is confident in Ukraine’s ability to reclaim all its occupied lands and emphasized the need to act now, as Russia is facing serious economic difficulties. This position from the former U.S. president came as a surprise, as his rhetoric regarding the conflict had previously been less clear-cut.

However, there have been no official decisions announced regarding a change in U.S. policy towards Russia, particularly concerning the imposition of new sanctions against Moscow. Volodymyr Zelensky continues to insist on the necessity of tougher measures, voicing corresponding calls during his visit to New York in September.
