Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated Peter Madyar and his political force – the Tisza party – on their victory in the parliamentary elections in Hungary. In his address, he emphasized the importance of a constructive approach in politics and highlighted Ukraine’s readiness to develop good-neighborly relations with Budapest.

“I congratulate Peter Madyar and the TISZA party on their convincing victory. It is important when a constructive approach wins. Ukraine has always sought good-neighborly relations with everyone in Europe, and we are ready to develop cooperation with Hungary,” he wrote in a telegram.
Results of the Parliamentary Elections in Hungary
On April 12, parliamentary elections took place in Hungary, marked by a record voter turnout. As of 6:30 PM, 77.8% of the country’s citizens participated in the voting. This has been one of the highest figures in recent years.
According to the National Election Office of Hungary, after counting over 63% of the votes, the Tisza party receives 138 seats in the new parliament. The former ruling party, Fidesz, secured 54 mandates, while the right-wing political force, Our Homeland, obtained 7 mandates.
Changes in the Political Landscape of Hungary
Prime Minister Viktor Orban acknowledged the defeat of his political force in the elections and announced the party’s transition to opposition. According to Hungary’s electoral system, the majority of deputies (106 out of 199) are elected in single-member districts based on a simple majority, while another 93 parliamentary mandates are distributed among parties that have overcome the 5% threshold.
The Ukrainian side expressed its readiness for active dialogue with the new Hungarian government for the sake of joint constructive work for the benefit of both nations, as well as for peace, security, and stability on the European continent.
