Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky raised the issue of expanding military assistance for Ukraine during his recent meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump. According to the head of state, the discussion included not only the transfer of Tomahawk missiles but also the acquisition of HIMARS systems, ATACMS missiles, and related armaments.

Zelensky Emphasized the Needs of the Armed Forces
During a briefing for media representatives, Zelensky stressed that Ukraine constantly requires modern weaponry for effective defense. He noted that even dozens of ATACMS missiles cannot provide a qualitative advantage on the battlefield, considering the scale of the conflict and the intensity of hostilities.
“We spoke with President Trump during our last meeting in New York. We talked not only about ‘Tomahawks.’ We discussed HIMARS, and I mentioned ATACMS. In fact, when you have, for example, 40, 50, or 60 ATACMS, it’s nothing between us”
Additionally, the president highlighted the development of domestic drone production in Ukraine. He stated that the country is already using 140–150 models of drones and can increase the number to 300–350 units. However, he emphasized that significantly larger volumes of modern weaponry are needed to achieve results on the front lines.
Trump’s Reaction to the Possibility of Weapon Transfers
Donald Trump previously stated that he has already “in a certain sense made a decision” regarding the potential transfer of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. He explained that for a final decision, he would like to understand how exactly Ukraine plans to use these missiles and where they would be directed. At the same time, it is currently impossible to clearly discern from Trump’s statements what the final verdict will be – positive or negative for the Ukrainian side.
Thus, the issue of expanding military support for Ukraine remains open, and a final decision regarding the transfer of strategic weapons, including Tomahawk, HIMARS, and ATACMS, has yet to be made.
