Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed the course of his meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, which took place on February 14 during the Munich Security Conference.

During the negotiations, Zelensky provided the American official with detailed information about the current situation at the front, particularly regarding Russian strikes and the devastating effects of attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. The president also emphasized the need to strengthen support for Ukraine in protecting civilians during the winter period.

“We discussed how to help Ukraine protect lives during the winter cold and enhance our resilience,” he stated.

In addition, the parties paid attention to the diplomatic process and the prospects for trilateral negotiations between the delegations of Ukraine, Russia, and the United States. Zelensky highlighted the importance of the effectiveness of the planned negotiations in Geneva and thanked the U.S. for its constructive approach to addressing issues of security guarantees and Ukraine’s economic recovery.

Next Steps and Participation in the Conference

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has not yet made any public comments regarding the outcomes of the meeting. Zelensky also noted that he plans to discuss the results of the negotiations with U.S. delegates, including the president’s special representative Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
