At 18 Andriyivskyy Descent in Kyiv, a valuable architectural monument from the late 19th century was destroyed during restoration work.

Destruction of Unique Interiors and Details
Heritage protector Dmytro Perov noted that all original interiors, internal ceilings, and walls of the building were completely lost during the work. Particularly irretrievably lost were the tiled stoves, stucco rosettes, mosaics, and window fittings. The unique stucco interiors, which had been captured in photos before the restoration began, now exist only in images.
“We must state: all original interiors, internal ceilings, and walls have been destroyed. In particular, the tiled stoves, stucco rosettes, mosaics, and window fittings. The building was filled with exquisite stucco interiors that were photographed before the work began. Now they are lost forever,” wrote Dmytro Perov.
History of the Building at 18 Andriyivskyy Descent
According to Dmytro Perov, the building was constructed in 1880 on the order of collegiate secretary Yakov Moshchynskyi. Initially, the structure was used as a tenement house, during the Soviet period it housed communal apartments, and later it became artists’ workshops.
