Support for the Belarusian people and Ukraine’s position

During the meeting, the parties discussed the issue of the Russian Federation’s interference in the internal affairs of Belarus, as well as the threats of further involvement of this country in the war against Ukraine. Zelensky emphasized the importance of the support that Belarusians provide to Ukraine in its fight for freedom.

“We all support the aspirations of the people of Belarus to rid themselves of Russian interference and know that Russia is trying to pull Belarus further into this war against Ukraine. And we appreciate every expression of support from Belarusians for a free Ukraine and know that there will come a day when our countries will again have good neighborly relations based on the real independence of both Ukraine and Belarus from Moscow,” the Ukrainian president wrote, noting that he discussed this with Tsikhanouskaya and her team.

Delegation and highlights of the visit

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya reported on the meeting via Telegram, noting the composition of the Belarusian delegation: she was accompanied to Kyiv by Pavel Latushko, Deputy Head of the United Transitional Cabinet of Ministers, as well as advisors Franak Viachorka and Denis Kuchynski.

In a recent interview with the Belarusian service of Radio Free Europe, Tsikhanouskaya called her visit to Kyiv historic and emphasized her readiness to discuss with the Ukrainian authorities the issues of Belarusians living or fighting in Ukraine. According to the opposition leader, Ukraine’s victory in the war could open a “window of opportunity” for democratic changes in Belarus. She also opposed any easing of European sanctions against Lukashenko’s regime.
