As a result of a large-scale attack by the Russian Federation in Kyiv, around 30 residential buildings have been damaged or destroyed. This was stated by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, who emphasized the serious consequences of the shelling for the civilian population of the capital.

Scale of destruction and casualties

According to the President, as a result of the massive attack across Ukraine, four people have died, and around 100 have been injured. In Kyiv, two individuals were killed, and 77 people sustained injuries of varying severity. Damage has been recorded at over 40 locations in different districts of the capital: Shevchenkivskyi, Darnytskyi, Desnyanskyi, Obolonskyi, and Holosiivskyi.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing in the Shevchenkivskyi and Darnytskyi districts, as people may still be trapped under the rubble.

Struck facilities and situation in the regions

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Russian attack caused damage to apartment buildings and private houses, shopping centers, educational institutions, markets, administrative buildings of the State Emergency Service and police, as well as the National Museum of Chernobyl in Kyiv.

In the Kyiv region, particularly in the Bucha and Obukhiv districts, two people have died due to shelling, and nine others have been injured, including an infant. In Cherkasy, 11 people were injured due to a strike by a Russian drone on a high-rise building, including two children.

On the night of May 24, Russian forces launched an attack using 600 drones of various types and 90 missiles from air, sea, and ground bases. The main direction of the strike was aimed specifically at Kyiv.

The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have allegedly carried out a massive strike on “military command facilities, air bases, and enterprises of the defense-industrial complex of Ukraine,” using, among other things, ballistic missiles “Oreshnik.”
