Features of the New Military Service Program
According to the president’s statement, young citizens of France aged 18 to 19 will be able to participate in the program. Military service will take place exclusively within the country’s territory. The main goal of this innovation is to enhance the training level of youth and modernize the French armed forces to effectively counter contemporary challenges.
Objective of the Initiative and Public Support
Macron highlighted the necessity of quality training for young people to ensure the security and resilience of the state amid rising risks.
“In this uncertain world, where might prevails over right, and war is a present reality, our nation cannot afford fear, panic, unpreparedness, or division. Fear, ultimately, never helps avoid danger. The only way to escape it is to prepare for it,” said the French president.
It is worth noting that the initiative has received significant support among the citizens of France. According to a recent sociological survey, 73% of respondents approve of the idea of voluntary military service. Of these, 22% expressed full support, while another 51% support the program at a general level.
