In Kyiv, the pre-trial investigation has been completed regarding the commander of an artillery battery from one of the military units and his deputy, who are accused of causing nearly 900,000 hryvnias in damages to the state.

The investigation established that the deputy commander prepared three reports. These indicated that he and 19 other servicemen allegedly carried out combat missions in the Chernihiv region in August-September 2024. In reality, these military personnel were in a different location and did not participate in combat operations. The artillery battery commander, without verifying the accuracy of the information, signed the aforementioned documents.

Consequences of negligence and fraudulent documents

Based on the signed reports, the deputy commander and 19 other servicemen illegally received nearly 900,000 hryvnias in additional funds from the state. As a result of the investigation, the battery commander is charged with negligence in service, which led to severe consequences under martial law (Part 4 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). This article provides for a punishment of up to eight years in prison.

The deputy commander is accused of willfully failing to perform his official duties, which also resulted in severe consequences (Part 4 of Article 426 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He faces a penalty of up to ten years in prison.

During the pre-trial investigation, the state has been fully compensated for the damages incurred.
