The prolonged restriction of traffic on the Southern Bridge causes significant inconvenience to the residents of Kyiv

The Kyiv City Military Administration has expressed concern regarding the delays in the repair of one of the capital’s key transport facilities – the Southern Bridge over the Dnipro River, as well as the uncertain situation regarding metro operations during air alerts.
Delays in the Repair of the Southern Bridge
Following a meeting of the Kyiv Defense Council, the head of the KMA, Timur Tkachенко, emphasized that the previously announced deadlines for completing the repair work on the Southern Bridge are constantly changing without a clear explanation of the reasons. Initially, it was planned to open the bridge by August 1, then the deadline was postponed to the end of October, and as of early November, the work is still not completed. According to the head of the KMA, there are virtually no repair workers on site, raising additional questions about accountability for the delays.
“The operation of the Southern Bridge. Tell me, Mr. Klitschko, who should be held accountable for the lies regarding the deadlines for the completion of the repairs? Initially, it was said – by August 1. Then – by the end of October. Today is November 4. I have seen that there are virtually no repair workers at the site. It is obvious that you are not in a hurry on this matter. This, Mr. Mayor, is your responsibility,” wrote Timur Tkachенко.
Issues with Transport Connectivity and Metro Operations
In addition to the bridge repair issues, Tkachенко specifically pointed out the problem of connectivity between the left and right banks of Kyiv. In particular, he noted that the lack of movement on the open section of the “green” metro line during air alerts remains unresolved, and a technical solution for restoring movement has yet to be developed. He also emphasized the need for compensation for passengers who cannot use the open section of the red metro line during alerts.
In this regard, the head of the KMA recommended that the city leadership consider personnel changes if the responsible individuals are unable to fulfill their assigned tasks, and called for more effective work to ensure proper transport connectivity between the banks of the Dnipro.
