Вимагач із ножем: киянин видурив у вдови військового пів мільйона гривень

A 37-year-old man from Kyiv will face trial in the capital for using deception and violence to seize money from the widow of a Ukrainian soldier.

This is reported by Kyiv24

As law enforcement officials discovered, over six months, the man learned about the woman receiving state payments due to her husband’s death in service and repeatedly asked her for money, citing fabricated circumstances: the need to pay off loans and other financial obligations.

In reality, all the money he received was spent on personal entertainment and gambling. When the woman suspected his ill intentions and refused to lend him money any further, the man donned an aggressive demeanor and used force.

Knife threats and extortion

“When the woman realized that the offender had no intention of returning her money, she refused his latest request for a loan. After that, the perpetrator became enraged, went to the victim’s home, and, threatening her with a knife, forced her to transfer another 130 thousand hryvnias. Throughout this time, the man deceived the woman out of approximately half a million hryvnias,” the police reported.

Law enforcement quickly documented the crime and detained the suspect. He was informed of the charges under Part 2 of Article 190 (fraud) and Part 4 of Article 189 (extortion committed with threats of causing serious bodily harm in a state of martial law) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Charges and further proceedings

Currently, the indictment against the 37-year-old Kyiv resident has been submitted to the court. During the pre-trial investigation, the suspect was held in custody. If the man’s guilt is proven, he faces severe punishment under current legislation.
