The new Minister of Defense, Denys Shmyhal, held a working meeting with the Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, to discuss strategies for expanding effective technological solutions for defense, particularly in the fight against Iranian drones of the ‘Shahed’ type.
Expansion of Interceptor Drone Usage
During the dialogue, the parties focused on scaling modern technologies that have already proven their effectiveness on the battlefield. Special attention was given to interceptor drones, which have significantly increased the number of successful interceptions of kamikaze drones. Denys Shmyhal emphasized the need for the rapid implementation and dissemination of such solutions, fulfilling the task set by the President of Ukraine.
“This technology has made an incredible breakthrough, and the number of successful interceptions of ‘Shaheds’ is rapidly increasing every month. It is important to find and quickly scale anti-Shahed solutions. This is the task set by the President.”
Weapon Production and Innovations in Defense
Denys Shmyhal reported that the meeting participants also discussed the development of weapon production and the implementation of new solutions capable of changing the situation on the front. They specifically addressed deregulation in the area of transferring and decommissioning drones, which will allow Ukrainian military personnel to obtain the necessary equipment without delays due to bureaucratic procedures.
Mykhailo Fedorov, commenting on the results of the meeting, noted that this was the first working meeting with Denys Shmyhal since his appointment. According to him, the officials discussed in detail the new strategy for developing defense innovations, improving the ‘Army of Drones.Bonus’ system, and making decisions on defense issues based on quality data.
It is worth noting that the day before, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky instructed Denys Shmyhal to urgently finalize all necessary contracts related to the supply of drones for the needs of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
