U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his disappointment with the outcome of his phone conversation with Russian Federation leader Vladimir Putin. According to the American president, the Russian side shows no willingness to stop the war against Ukraine, which raises concerns in Washington.
“I am very disappointed with the conversation I had today with President Putin… I just say: I don’t think he wants to stop, and that’s very bad.”
Trump Plans to Talk with Zelensky
Donald Trump confirmed his intention to hold a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on July 4. According to him, the dialogue is scheduled for the morning in American time, which corresponds to the second half of the day in Kyiv. The exact time of the talks has not yet been specified.
The U.S. president emphasized that no progress has been made in negotiations with the Kremlin so far. Trump noted that during his last conversation with Putin on July 3, no breakthroughs were achieved regarding the cessation of the war on Ukrainian territory.
Kremlin’s Position and Diplomatic Efforts
The Kremlin states that Russia will not abandon its goals in Ukraine and does not plan to cease hostilities, despite Washington’s calls for a ceasefire. However, Putin has expressed formal readiness for negotiations. Despite the intensive diplomatic course initiated by Donald Trump after taking office, efforts to stop the war have not yet yielded results.
Experts note that the Russian leader is convinced of the possibility of victory on the battlefield, and therefore is currently not ready for compromises. Russian troops continue offensive actions in eastern Ukraine, despite significant losses among personnel and equipment.
The conversation between Trump and Putin, which lasted about an hour, was the sixth since Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20. The previous contact took place on June 14.
At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during his visit to Denmark, also reported on the planned conversation with Donald Trump. According to Zelensky, the main topic will be the issue of possible reductions in American military aid to Ukraine.
During the NATO summit in The Hague on June 25, Donald Trump expressed the opinion that Vladimir Putin’s territorial ambitions go beyond the occupation of Ukrainian territories. At the same time, he reiterated the thesis that Russia would like to end the war against Ukraine.
