U.S. President Donald Trump noted during a press conference at the White House that there is a stable connection between him and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, which opens up the possibility for a personal meeting in the future.

“I have a great relationship with Kim Jong Un. And there is communication,” Trump emphasized, adding, “Yes, I will probably do something about it later.”
“This is a major nuclear country, and he is a very smart guy. I got to know him very well,” the president remarked.
The head of the White House recalled the period of his first term when the rhetoric between him and the North Korean leader was “tough and dirty,” specifically mentioning the nickname “Rocket Man” that he gave to Kim Jong Un.
Currently, there are no details reported regarding contacts or a possible meeting. Relations between the U.S. and North Korea traditionally remain tense due to North Korea’s nuclear program, sanctions, and political disagreements. The U.S. urges North Korea to cease nuclear testing, while Pyongyang considers this “interference in its internal affairs.” Negotiations between the countries have repeatedly stalled.
During his first presidency, Trump met with Kim Jong Un multiple times, but these talks did not lead to concrete results — North Korea did not initiate a process of actual denuclearization, and sanctions remained in place.
North Korea is a partner of Russia, supplying it with artillery shells, missiles, and other weaponry used against Ukraine. At the same time, Moscow is likely providing Pyongyang with military technologies.
Western leaders and Ukrainian officials point out that since last autumn, North Korea has sent approximately 11,000 troops to participate in combat alongside the Russian army against Ukrainian forces, primarily in Russia’s Kursk region.
