“We coordinated our positions ahead of important international events and the next steps towards restoring a just and comprehensive peace. We appreciate France’s leadership in peace efforts and future security guarantees for Ukraine”
. Barrot has not commented on this conversation.
On April 17, negotiations took place in Paris involving Ukraine, the USA, France, the United Kingdom, and Germany to explore ways to end Russia’s war in Ukraine. The next round of talks is scheduled for this week in London, and according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, it will take place on Wednesday.
Negotiations and Possible Compromises
On the eve of this, US President Donald Trump expressed hope that Ukraine and Russia would be able to reach an agreement as early as next week. He added that after this, both countries would “start doing big business with the thriving USA and earn fortunes”.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Ukraine is under significant pressure to respond to a number of ideas from the Trump administration aimed at ending the war. In particular, this includes the potential recognition by the USA of Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the exclusion of Kyiv from the list of NATO membership candidates.
Sources from the publication claim that these proposals were outlined in a confidential document presented to the Ukrainian delegation in Paris on April 17. They were also communicated to European high-ranking officials during a one-day meeting. The USA is now awaiting a response from Kyiv, which, according to preliminary information, is expected to be voiced during a meeting of Ukrainian, American, and European officials in London this week.
