Ukrainian General Staff Reveals Drone Routes from Hungary: Budapest Denies Border Violation

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine published evidence of a possible violation of Ukrainian airspace by a drone from the territory of Hungary on the evening of September 26, 2025. Two images released show the flight paths of the unmanned aerial vehicle, which, according to Ukrainian military sources, crossed the state border twice in the Transcarpathian region.

Response of the Armed Forces and Actions of Defenders

The General Staff’s statement noted that on the morning of September 26, radar systems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine detected the drone flying over Transcarpathia at various altitudes. Ukrainian military officials indicated that the object violated airspace from Hungary on two occasions. To minimize potential threats in the airspace over the Uzhhorod district, patrols using UAVs of the Armed Forces were deployed, specifically with the help of the “Chaklun-KM” UAV.

“On the morning of September 26, 2025, radar systems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine detected the flight of an aerial object of the drone type at different altitudes in the airspace of Ukraine over the territory of the Transcarpathian region. This object violated the state border of Ukraine from the side of Hungary on two occasions.

Hungary’s Position and Joint Discussions

The Hungarian Ministry of Defense stated on the same day that information regarding the flight of a Hungarian military drone over Ukraine is not accurate. The military department in Budapest reported that it had not received orders for such operations and has no information about the incident. It was also emphasized that there is ongoing contact between the military departments of the two countries.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on the afternoon of September 26 that the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, reported on the recent incidents involving drones on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border. According to the president, Ukrainian forces detected flights of reconnaissance drones that likely belong to Hungary. Zelensky noted that these devices could be conducting reconnaissance of industrial potential in border areas and instructed to verify all available information regarding each recorded incident.

Additionally, Hungary participated in discussions about the creation of a so-called “drone wall,” which took place on September 26 with representatives from several European Union countries.
