Updating the Pedestrian Crossing on Khreshchatyk for the Convenience of Kyiv Residents

Переходити Хрещатик стане зручніше

A new ground-level pedestrian crossing will soon appear on Khreshchatyk, the main street of Ukraine. This initiative, implemented from the direction of Prorezna Street, will significantly simplify crossing this vital artery of the capital in both directions.

This is reported by Kyiv24

The head of the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA), Tymur Tkachenko, announced this on his social media page. He noted:

“Khreshchatyk is the main and one of the busiest streets in the city. Therefore, it is especially important that Kyiv’s hallmark is accessible and convenient for everyone. The establishment of ground-level crossings is an important step towards improving the inclusivity of the space.”

Tkachenko emphasized that currently, pedestrians can only cross Khreshchatyk via the underground crossing at the intersection with Prorezna Street, which creates inconveniences for people with limited mobility. Approval for the work has already been obtained from the Kyiv Patrol Police, so the new crossing is planned to be established promptly and efficiently.

In the near future, ground-level pedestrian crossings are also planned to be installed on Mykhailivska Street, near Independence Square, and on Shevchenko Boulevard, near the “Universitet” metro station. This project is part of a barrier-free route connecting the Main Military Clinical Hospital, Independence Square, and the Central Railway Station.
