A full bail of 120 million hryvnias has been posted for Vice Prime Minister and Minister of National Unity Oleksii Chernyshov, as confirmed by the High Anti-Corruption Court. The identity of the person who provided the funds remains undisclosed at the court’s request.
Defense’s Appeal and Case Circumstances
Chernyshov’s defense has appealed the High Anti-Corruption Court’s decision regarding the bail. Today was the last day for posting the funds; if this requirement was not met, the prosecution planned to request the court to impose a preventive measure in the form of detention for the official. Previously, Oleksii Chernyshov emphasized that he was forced to raise the bail funds because his personal bank accounts remain blocked.
Nature of the Charges and Investigation Progress
On June 23, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office notified Chernyshov of suspicion. He is accused of abusing his official position and receiving illegal benefits on a particularly large scale — both for himself and for third parties. According to the investigation, the official may have been involved in the illegal allocation of a land plot in Kyiv to one of the capital’s developers for the construction of a residential complex at an undervalued price. In return, according to investigators, discounts on apartments were obtained for the “minister and the individuals he designated.”
Chernyshov has become the sixth suspect in a high-profile investigation into a large-scale corruption scheme in the construction sector involving high-ranking officials. He himself denies the charges, calling them unfounded, and emphasizes that he has no intention of resigning.
