A unique historic estate on Voznesensky Descent in Kyiv, adjacent to the archaeological site of the medieval Voznesensky Caves, has been returned to the city’s ownership by court decision.

Court Decision and Background
The Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv granted the prosecutors’ claim and ruled to return the estate, built in 1898, to the ownership of the territorial community, located at Voznesensky Descent, 25-27. Previously, this land plot along with the building had fallen into private hands through a dubious privatization scheme.
“The court granted the prosecutors’ claim to remove obstacles to the ownership and management of the lands of the territorial community of Kyiv. In particular, regarding the cancellation of the illegal registration of ownership rights to the estate, built in 1898, located at Voznesensky Descent, 25-27,” wrote Dmytro Perov.
It is known that in the courtyard of this estate are the medieval Voznesensky Caves, which were officially included in the List of Monuments of Kyiv in the archaeology category in 2023. Their uniqueness and historical value enhance the importance of preserving the complex for the city.
Development Plans and the Future of the Estate
According to heritage protector Dmytro Perov, since 2019, there were plans to develop the area with the historic building and caves. LLC “Capital Real Estate” illegally registered ownership rights to the building, which did not belong to them, and later, using the so-called “toilet scheme,” appropriated the land plot, the area of which was ten times larger than that of the building itself. The plot was intended for the construction of a new facility.
However, thanks to the prompt and effective work of law enforcement agencies, the illegal privatization was halted, and the estate along with the plot was returned to the city. Now, the public is proposing to restore the historic estate and establish an archaeological museum based on it to ensure the preservation and promotion of Kyiv’s unique cultural heritage.
