Volker on the US State Department’s Reaction
Volker commented on the official greeting from the US State Department on the occasion of Russia Day. He noted that the US administration avoids open statements regarding Kremlin policy, while Russian President Vladimir Putin speaks much more directly.
“One of the unpleasant things is that you never hear clear formulations regarding Russia’s actions from President Trump and members of the government. Putin is now speaking much more clearly than the US administration,” he said.
Volker also pointed out that the US administration does not publicly acknowledge the “imperialist genocidal mindset” of the Russian president. In his opinion, Secretary of State Marco Rubio is aware of this privately, but does not demonstrate it in his official statements.
Features of the Russia Day Greeting
Commenting on the text of the greeting, Volker emphasized that the US Secretary of State did not mention the Russian leadership: neither Putin, nor the Prime Minister, nor the government. The address was exclusively about the Russian people. According to Volker, this approach is intentional and demonstrates a certain protest from the State Department.
On June 12, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio congratulated the Russians on Russia Day, expressing hope for constructive cooperation with the Russian Federation on achieving peace in the context of the war against Ukraine.
